Beware Texters!
So, many of you have probably heard of people who eat while they are sleeping or sleep walk or even talk in their sleep. How about texting while sleeping?
I came across an interesting story about people who text in their sleep. I had heard about this phenomenon a few months ago, but was amazed to see people talking about it. Apparently, some people who text frequently during the day or night while awake are at risk for texting while sleeping.
Experts say it's a sign of our times and demonstrates just how technologically advanced we have become.
Who is at Risk?
It would seem there are some things that may place you at risk. Teens are at high risk for this act because they tend to send an average of 100 texts per day. Thus, its a deeply rooted habit that is difficult to break even during sleep. In addition, taking a sleeping medication or keeping your phone near your bed may also leave you prone to texting in your sleep.
In the video link I posted, the narrator indicates that texting in your sleep can be likened to turning off your alarm clock when it goes off and not remembering it. It is quite possible that people are doing this during a "waking period" and they simply don't remember completing the action. One teenager said that when she went back and read the texts that she had sent int he middle of the night, she found that they weren't intelligible. They didn't make any sense.
How to Keep It from Happening
It has been recommended that in order to prevent texting while sleeping, you should remove the technology from the room or at least move your phone to a place where it won't disturb your sleep during the night. The simple sound of an electronic beep might actually trigger you to unknowingly respond to the text where as if the technology is not near by you won't hear it or respond to it.
