So, 2012 has arrived and even if you are not necessarily one who likes to make New Year's Resolutions, I suspect that somewhere in the back of your mind, you have still set a few personal goals...such as how to improve your financial outlook. After all, most of us could stand to save a little more, spend a little less and erase a little debt.
How many of you out there have student loan debt? Credit card debt? Mortgages? Car Loans? Do you know which one to pay off first? What about retirement planning? Do you need a little guidance in these areas?
Good news! The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) is airing Suze Orman's Money Class over the next several weeks to help American's understand ways to prioritize and pay off debt. Suze Orman's Money Class has been featured on PBS a few times over the last year and in each segment she has frequently imparted great advice. Sure, much of it is stuff we already know and understand we should be doing, however in today's economy, it does not hurt to hear it again and again.
This will be a six episode series in which the financial advisor will follow the curriculum of her CNBC show and PBS "Money Class" episodes where she will not only try to impart advice to help get consumers back on their feet but also impart tips for survival.
This hubber caught the first episode which aired this past Monday Night on OWN and was encouraged by most of what she saw. Sure, there were moments of tears from the audience and financial problems within the spotlight couple's relationship, however these were the real things that people are dealing with on a day-to-day basis.
Perhaps, the most interesting component in the first show was the prioritization of which debt to pay off first which was presented by Suze. Her advice seemed to differ somewhat from other gurus as it related to paying off student loan debt first vs. credit card debt. It seems the prioritization steps you take would really depend on whose gospel you prefer in these two areas.
Nonetheless, if you are looking for tips on how to climb out of debt, plan for retirement or when to buy house, be sure to check out Suze Orman's Money Class on the OWN. It airs Monday nights.
